Water Drop

I know i’m supposed to be updating with the Gold Coast pics, but there’s sooo many, I will eventually go through it and get them posted.

Since the matches attempt, I’ve been meaning to try waterdrop shots. These are a lot harder then I thought, and its a lot of trial and error. Of the 300 plus shots I took, there are only really a few decent ones. With more practice and patience, I’m sure i’ll be able to grab more keepers.

So here are few abstracts:

I like to burn things…

Since there have been recent posts on a few forums that I visit regarding matches, I thought I might also give it a try. I shot this in about 30 mins and really didn’t have heaps of time today to take more shots as I needed to go to work.

I might give it another go in a couple of days or when I have some time off, but I’ve found that the speedlites don’t recylce fast enough for me to get 3 or more shots, I bascially only had one crack at every match cos my batteries were running flat so I didn’t even get a second flash in.

Here’s the only one that I thought turned out ok.

Here’s the setup I used for the photo above, for those that want to know, it was shot with a sigma 150mm macro and 68mm worth of extension tubes where the 430ex and 580ex were remotely fired with the ste2, using a remote shutter.

Sunrise

Well its the first post back since going to the Gold Coast and I will be slowly plubishing journal entries from the time I was in the Gold Coast but in the mean time………

Here’s my first attempts of a sunrise while i was in the gold coast, i’m now addicted!! :)

I want to chase more sunrises at other locations, only problem is, being in the west, makes it a little more difficult to grab those ocean view sunrises cos it means waking up ALOT earlier :)

Hope you guys like em.

First 1:1 Spider

Well last night i had a crack at my first 1:1 macro.

Last night when Briony went out for a smoke when I saw a spider and quickly grabbed my camera and flash, it took me a while to get some focus (thanks to dpastern for the macro lesson :) ) and when i finally got focus i took the shot with the flash off shoe as i don’t have a bracket just yet and as you can tell the lighting is pretty crap :)

I would have liked more cracks at him, but as soon as the flash went off, he started crawling away and i got scared shitless cos on the viewfinder it looked so close, Briony jumped too when she saw it move and that was it, no more shots of the little critter, so the one and only shot i got is here:

I know its not the best lighting and what not, but i guess i was just somewhat happy with a somewhat in focus 1:1 shot :)

Macro is fun, although there’s a massive leaning curve and patience is a must ;) :D

Wow, it’s been a while since my last post.

Last Saturday, Briony & I went to see the “Young Diva’s” (which consists ex-idol girls) concert at the Star City Showroom. The concert was quite good and I enjoyed it quite a bi, all four girls have unbelievable voices, but Ricki-Lee is still my favourite :)

I’m not sure if I was allowed to bring in the 20D and 70-200, so I left it inside the cloak room. As the show started, I saw everbody go snap happy (although I didn’t see any DSLR’s) so I though, stuff it, come intermission I’ll grab my bag.

So the second half of the show starts, I’m getting snap happy (in a sneakingly matter of course, as I didn’t want to attract attention to myself with that 70-200) and next thing I know, I’ve filled up my 1gb memory card, I go to grab another memory card and ……

CRAP I FORGOT MY OTHER MEMORY CARD!!!! :(

Luckily I had a spare 512mb somewhere in the bag and I was able to get some more shots but I had to switch to JPG rather then RAW.

All in all i think there’s some good shots, not award winning shots, but decent shots to have memories of the night :)

Shooting at ISO800 with an f2.8 lens with IS has got to be an awesome combo, and my first real experience has left me amazed :)

Now I know what all those people are talking about when they say Canon and high ISO is quite good. I have to test out ISO1600 and 3200 :)

Now for some pics. Full gallery can be viewed here

Robbed….AGAIN!!

Well once again we were robbed by the ref!

The penalty call in the 95th was massive! It pretty much sealed our fate in the world cup, all because of a dive! Once again the ref’s of this world cup has failed to impress me, Australia have been really hard done by in the whole series, they must’ve had the worst ref’s all tournament long.

It’s such a shame that it had to happen to Lucas Neill who I believe has had the world cup of his life, Neill is surely our man of the tournament, and in my book one of the best defenders of the tournament.

Keep your head up boys, you’ve done Australia proud! You’ve united the whole country and you can bet your life that ALL OF US ARE PROUD!

Well done to getting this far.

We would have been playing Ukraine if it wasn’t such a bad call. Props to Italy though, for keeping us out of their goal with 1 man down.

As someone said in OCAU, the Italians and the Brazilians should take diving as a sport and they would definately take GOLD! Never have I seen the biggest bunch of girls, heck nominate them for Oscars as well because they are the world’s best actors as well, one defender goes near by, and they fall and cry for their mum like a little bitch!

I’m pretty sure A LOT of people feel the same way, but there is no going back, we are out of the tournament, I just hope Ukraine give them the thrashing of their lives.
